_ to mark this year's 200th anniversary of the invention of photography, here are some texts I wrote about some of its famous representatives 35 years ago for „contemporary masterworks“, a tome published by st. james press in london. featured with a representative image on a double-page spread; if you can, please do read the essays in their original german version on this website! here's what's in the book about rené burri, ed van der elsken, lee friedlander, william klein ↓, richard misrach and shomei tomatsu (who's image was printed upside down).
_ to mark DGPh’s 75th ‘birthday’, photographs taken on 18 April 2026 were invited. mine was taken at a very remote farm belonging to friends in bulgaria: just as had happened two years earlier, a foal had been born just the day before my arrival.

_ via midjourney, an AI (artificial intelligence), i have now asked the us painter andrew wyeth, who died in 2009, to paint copper miners at the end of their shift exclusively for me - a motif he never used throughout his life, now realised in his typical manner. will wyeth turn in his grave or rise again excited about the new possibilities?

_ who's decorating whom here? fanny ardant, the icon of french cinema (e.g. in françois truffaut's last film "on love and death", shot in 1983 by néstor almendros in beautiful b/w), can be seen here in front of one of my venice pictures - incroyable! in december 2022 in paris shooting a film by benoît cohen, " ma france à moi " based on the novel of the same name:
